Denni Ruze killed it at the 2017 Austin Jingle Bell 5k run!  We brought a festive holiday beat to the event, and even Santa was making some moves with our rich assortment of Christmas tracks.

The 2017 Austin Jingle Bell 5K Event

This annual holiday event, which benefits MADD – Mothers Against Drunk Driving®, brings hundreds of runners and numerous vendors together for a worthy cause.  The mood of the event was very festive!  Runners wore Santa and elf hats, as well as other holiday garnishments.  “Sponsor row” was full of freebies and good information.  I’ve been to a number of events like this, and I’ll go on the record saying this was one of the most organized and happy events I’ve attended.  And if all that isn’t enough to demonstrate what a wonderful event this was, it was held at The Domain, which is such a beautiful location!

We had an early start for this event.  DJ Crispy and I were onsite by 6:45 (yes – in the morning!).  It was chilly and dark as we were setting up, but everyone was pretty helpful, and it didn’t take us very long at all.  We started spinning holiday music just before 7:30.  As more runners and their support groups showed up, the sun and the temperature both started to rise.  By the time the race started, the temperature was quite pleasant, for December.

Bringing the Beat!

The event organizer told us that the DJ they had last year didn’t play enough holiday music.  The crowd really gets festive, so we were told.  Thus, we came armed with over 12 hours of holiday music!  The tracks we selected crossed multiple genres.  We had some of the holiday classics, as well as jazz, hip-hop, R&B, pop and rock!  And the music was non-stop, except during the awards ceremony.

When the race started, we sent the runners on their way with the Bryan Adams classic, Run Rudolph Run!  As they ran out of sight, we kept the beat strong with tracks from Cee Lo Green, The Beach Boys, R Kelly, Justin Bieber, Jackson 5, Bruce Springsteen, Pentatonix,  Trans-Siberian Orchestra, and so many others.

Although it wasn’t a requirement, we brought along two Chauvet COLORstrips to add a bit more festiveness to our setup.

We congratulate all the runners, particularly those that placed in their divisions.  All of you did great!

We were told that they want us back next year!  We’re already looking forward to it!!
